A word from the hut keeper
Welcome to Nid d'Aigle hut, perched at an altitude of 2,372 meters, at the gateway to the high mountains!
Here, facing the seracs of Bionnassay glacier, the setting is magnificent.
Whether you're a mountaineer returning from Mont Blanc via the normal route, or a hiker looking for a destination with breathtaking views, the refuge welcomes you for a well-deserved break.
We offer generous and delicious meals at any time:
- Homemade hot dishes, carefully prepared and in generous quantities – perfect for regaining your strength.
- Something to enjoy with a tart or a typical mountain snack, and to quench your thirst!
The refuge is also:
- A comfortable stopover for those who choose to spend an extra night on their ascent of Mont Blanc.
- A destination in itself, to spend a night at altitude in a refuge labeled "Family Refuge" (note: access is difficult on foot in 2025 – see below).
- And a welcome alternative if you miss the last train – with the added bonus of relaxing over a good meal.
Take the time to savor the atmosphere of the refuge, combining conviviality, simplicity, and exceptional scenery.
Reservations are possible:
- online here
- directly by phone, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (in season only). Book in advance, but note that many spots become available in season as early as 8 a.m. three days before your arrival!
Access to the refuge – Summer 2025
Due to ongoing work on the Mont Blanc tramway, access to the Nid d'Aigle is changed this summer.
Two options for reaching the refuge:
While walking, via the Plat de l'Are trail, with an elevation gain of 985m and a cabled section ("ladders"). This hike is rated "difficult" and requires proper equipment. At the beginning of the season, remember to check that the trail is cleared of snow if you are not a mountaineer.
By train, subject to conditions :
> The tramway is reserved for mountaineers with a confirmed reservation at a refuge on the standard route (Nid d'Aigle, Tête Rousse, or Goûter).
> You must book your ticket in advance.
> And check the "mountaineer" timetable carefully, as not all trains run to the Nid d'Aigle during the construction.
Please prepare your visit carefully and follow these instructions, which guarantee smooth and secure access for all.
See you up there soon!
